The Elysian Fields

I PAUSE TO LOOK AT how vast the fields are, and as you can imagine, they're pretty broad. I begin to harness the energy I have stored for centuries and can scan for her soul. My radius is vast, but I can't sense any heat signatures around me even though I see wandering souls.

While I'm gathering ideas, can you recall the story of Orpheus when he descended into the underworld to save his wife from the underworld? Well, his trial was set by Persephone as she felt pity for him.

Hades said he could leave with his love, just as long as he didn't glance back at the love of his life while they were still in the underworld. He nearly made it out and then turned to look at her instantly... But he didn't realise she was still in the underworld. So his fate was to live without Anthea because he didn't have the patience.

Orpheus didn't stop there. On his second visit, the rumour is that he placed a ring on a statue in the Elysian Fields when he went to look for her. The ring possesses the ability to return to the land of the living with only one soul that has previously passed away. The problem was that he couldn't find her this time around. He was ripped limb from limb while searching for her, so I guess his bad fate works in my favour. The ring placed on the statue is in the centre of the fields, and I'm going to take it to free my darling right this instant.

My dashing abilities were gifted to me by the god Hermes when I caught the culprit stealing his messenger doves in a previous era. I can use this ability when I concentrate hard and chant 'I am as light as a feather' many times. Then I can use my body to defy any sciences and physics itself. Then, I position my body to dash, but I need to locate the direction I'll be moving in before I do.

I can't see any souls below me from the ladder, and as I peer closer, I start to see hundreds of souls. They're attempting to reach into the fountain, unable to step inside. The ring shines bright like a beacon. It can protect itself from the souls who desire freedom from the underworld.

It's our time to make it to freedom. Our chance has come to be free now and forever after. I dash my way inside the fountain. I whoosh through the souls before me, and it feels strange to walk past them, I'll tell you that. Almost like I'm turning into jelly but not quite there yet.

I make a splash as I enter the fountain. I resist taking the ring because if I do so, I'll become a target, and the souls will reach for me to save them instead of Anthea.

I can't see her within the crows of souls around me, and the only chance of finding her I have now is to summon her.
